What do you love about your job?
I love numbers and solving problems; figuring out discrepancies and reconciling data. Sometimes it’s like solving a mystery! It keeps me challenged each day.
Just after finishing college, I took an all-time favorite trip to the island of Bonaire, a diver’s paradise located in the Caribbean just off the coast of Venezuela. It was a group trip with several of my friends who were all divers. What an indescribable feeling it was to scuba dive around the coral reef teeming with the most beautiful underwater creatures. The peaceful pace in the villages made it a relaxing place to explore and enjoy the natural world.
Speaking of islands, if you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring?
My phone and my running shoes, but most importantly my husband – there is almost no situation he can’t get out of! He has all the boy scout skills!
I recently listened to Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming, on my kindle. Besides being an interesting biography, it was fascinating how I got to the end and felt like I had a new friend!
What’s on your playlist?
Believe it or not, I love Pitbull. I have several of his songs on my running playlist. They provide great beats to keep my momentum going during a run. I also love the Top 40 and adore 80’s music!
What might surprise people about you?
That I’ve lost almost 100 pounds over the last seven years! I am very interested in nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices after experiencing this dramatic weight loss and becoming a runner. Currently, I am working on mastering a ketogenic lifestyle. The science behind this way of eating is fascinating.
What are some of your interests?
Definitely running, LOL! I have run several marathons and half marathons, including the Boston and Chicago Marathons. I truly enjoying trail running these days. Oftentimes I bring my dog with me to enjoy the time off the street and in the woods. As the saying goes, Into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul. (John Muir) I also relax by knitting, doing puzzles and playing word games on my iPad.
If given a surprise day off from work, how would you spend your time?
I wouldn’t do any one extravagant thing…I would work out, then pamper myself head to toe. I would get my hair and nails done, have a facial, enjoy a massage, you know – the works!
Words of wisdom?
I like the saying, “She believed she could, so she did!” My personal mantra while training for the Boston Marathon was, “Beat the odds, Underdog!”
